CTV I – 26R: EPA MONITORING DATA
The CTV I-26R storage project is a geologic sequestration project for the storage of carbon dioxide ( CO₂) in a permitted reservoir in the Elk Hills Oil Field. The Project was permitted through the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency's (EPA) Class VI Underground Injection Control program. In accordance with the conditions of the Class VI permits, project monitoring and compliance data is made available on this page for public access.
Data available on this page includes :
- Semi-annual monitoring reports and data.
- Report of annual third-party compliance audit of monitoring.
- Executive summaries of the semi-annual reports (in English and Spanish)
- Real time displays of surface air monitoring
- Quarterly updates of any issuances of notifications of permit non-compliance, the steps taken to resolve such non-compliance and actions taken to prevent its reoccurrence.
Eddy Covariance (EC) towers monitor the movement of CO₂ between the air and the ground. In a carbon storage project, they help scientists detect and track any changes to CO₂ flow in the project area to ensure the storage site is working safely and effectively. Two EC towers (EC-1 and EC-3) are installed in the CTV I-26R project area as part of the surface monitoring plan. The movement of CO₂ between the air and the ground estimated by the EC towers will vary naturally with time due to meteorological factors, biological processes and site characteristics. All data displayed on this page is considered preliminary until validated, which occurs every 90 days, and is reported semi-annually to EPA.
